CatalogAIQ ("the app") helps Shopify merchants scan product catalogs for image issues, generate AI replacements, and save them to products. This page describes how merchant data is handled.
read_products, write_products, read_files, write_files. File scopes are used solely to update product image alt text via the Files API.When you click Generate image, we send a text prompt (derived from your product title and description) and, for image-to-image generation, a CDN image URL to fal.ai. We do not send raw image files. We do not use merchant catalog data to train AI models. Do not include personal data (names, addresses, or private identifiers) in product descriptions used for generation. That text is transmitted to fal.ai. We cannot control or guarantee deletion of inputs from fal.ai's systems. Saving alt text only does not call fal.ai. Review the fal.ai Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
The optional AI catalog scan feature sends product image URLs (not image files) to Google's AI services for quality analysis. Google's privacy policy and data-retention terms apply. Style inference results are cached in our database for up to 7 days. Disabling the AI scan option stops image URLs from being sent. Review the Google Privacy Policy.
Images are generated using commercially licensed AI models through fal.ai. The commercial license permits use for commercial purposes. However, purely AI-generated images without human creative selection are not registrable as copyright under current US Copyright Office guidance, and may not receive copyright protection in other jurisdictions. You are responsible for reviewing generated images before publishing them to your store, and for compliance with Shopify's Acceptable Use Policy. AI-generated images may have stylistic similarities to other works; the app makes no warranty that outputs are free of third-party claims. Review fal.ai Terms for permitted commercial uses.
Paid plans: Starter ($12/mo or $120/yr, 90 AI images/month), Growth ($34/mo or $340/yr, 260 AI images/month), Pro ($64/mo or $640/yr, 525 AI images/month). Annual billing equals 10 months charged (2 months free). One AI image of allowance is consumed per generated variation. Monthly included images reset at each billing cycle and do not roll over. When included images run out on a paid plan, additional AI usage is billed at $0.30 per image through Shopify at cycle end. Paid plans include unlimited basic catalog scans at no extra cost. The Free plan includes one basic catalog scan and 10 one-time sample images at install. Generation is blocked at zero sample images on Free. All Shopify charges are processed by Shopify.
CatalogAIQ does not store customer personal information. Upon receipt of a customers/data_request webhook, no data is returned because no customer PII is held. Upon receipt of a customers/redact webhook, no action is required for the same reason.
On uninstall, CatalogAIQ processes Shopify's mandatory GDPR webhooks. Scan results, generation logs, billing records, and all associated shop data are deleted within 30 days of uninstall or upon receipt of a verified shop/redact webhook, whichever comes first. If you reinstall, no prior data is restored. Images you saved to your Shopify products before uninstalling remain on Shopify's CDN and are not affected by CatalogAIQ's deletion. Manage those directly in your Shopify admin.
